Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Trinity earns sweep over St. Francis

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity women's volleyball picked up a key CCAC victory on Tuesday night, as the Trolls took a straight-set win over St. Francis, 25-11, 25-22, 25-17 inside DeVos Gymnasium.

The Trolls (8-17, 6-5 CCAC) held their opponents to an .018 attack percentage, the second-lowest this year for a Trinity opponent, forcing 24 errors to the Saints' 26 kills on the night. The win marks a bit of payback for the Trolls who fell to the Saints (9-17, 7-4 CCAC) in straight sets in the conference opener earlier this season.

Taryn Hinken led the attack for Trinity, scoring a match-high 10 kills with a .400 attack percentage and four blocks. Cecilia Zuniga made 19 digs while serving up three aces in the win, and Alexis Bartz tallied 34 assists to go with six digs and three kills.

After a back-and-forth start and a 7-7 score in the opening set, the Trolls would go on a 10-1 run, including seven points in a row, to lead 17-8. Brooke Veldman scored two kills during the rally, and two of Zuniga's three aces were dealt as the Trolls pulled away. Trinity closed the first game by scoring eight of the last nine to take an early lead in the match.

The Trolls would lead 5-2 in game two, but the Saints responded with four in a row and a 7-2 run to take a two-point lead at 9-7. Kills from Bartz and Dej'a Williams brought Trinity back in front, 12-10 before the visitors scored three straight for another lead change at 13-12. The Trolls scored six of the next eight, with four errors committed by the Saints, to lead 19-15, and would play even with the Saints the rest of the way. Raimey Owens' kill gave the Trolls set point at 24-21, and Sarah Neighbors scored the kill two plays later to give Trinity the game.

Three kills from Hinken helped lead the Trolls during a 7-2 run early in the third, giving Trinity an 8-5 edge. Three straight points pushed the lead further, with a Veldman kill and two St. Francis errors at 13-8, as the Trolls continued to slowly pull away down the stretch. Neighbors and Veldman would combine for the last four Trinity kills in the closing points, with Zuniga dealing an ace on the final serve to secure the win.

The Trolls now face their final road trip of the regular season on Thursday night, when they travel to Indiana South Bend for a 6pm CT matchup against the Titans. Trinity then returns home on Saturday for the final regular season home match of the year, where the team will celebrate Senior Day as they host Olivet Nazarene at 1pm.
