Trolls rally, but fall short in road matchup at Judson

ELGIN, Ill. – Overcoming a first-set loss, Trinity Volleyball pushed the host Judson Eagles to five sets but ultimately came up just short on the road Tuesday night.

The Trolls got off to a slow start, falling behind 7-1 to start the match before recovering with a 6-2 rally to close the gap to 16-14 in the opening set. The Eagles secured the first set with a five-point run moments later, taking the win 25-19.

Trinity came back in game two, picking up the final three points to hold off another Judson set point as Sharide Sykes' kill at 26-24 evened up the match. The Trolls took game three, claiming five of the final seven points to win 25-21.

Judson again took a big lead to start game four, opening a 9-2 advantage and leading wire-to-wire in a 25-20 win to force a fifth set. After the Eagles scored six of the first seven points in the deciding game, Trinity rallied with a 10-2 run that included kills from four different Trolls to move back in front, 13-10.

The Eagles would recover, scoring six of the last seven points to secure the match, 16-14.

Sarah Neighbors led the Trolls' attack, scoring a career-high 21 kills. Aolani Cannon and Dej'a Williams each finished with 10 kills, while Sykes recorded eight kills and 12 digs to go along with 48 assists.

Defensively, Makenzi Bennett picked up 25 digs, while Raimey Owens and Jorieliss Caraballo each had 11.

With four matches to go, the Trolls are tied for the final spot in the CCAC Tournament with Indiana South Bend; the Titans come to DeVos Gymnasium on Thursday night, with first serve scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
