LA CROSSE, Wisc. – Trinity Volleyball faced off against the regular season champs in the first round of the CCAC Women's Volleyball Tournament on Tuesday, showing improvement from their earlier matchup but ultimately falling short against No. 13 Viterbo in straight sets on Tuesday night.
The Trolls came out strong in the opening set, taking a 4-2 lead after Dej'a Williams' second kill in the first six points of the match. The host V-Hawks responded with a 5-1 run, but Trinity would keep things close, tying the score after two kills from Aolani Cannon and a Viterbo error at 15-15. Viterbo would score five straight before the Trolls nearly pulled even again at 21-20, but the home team would finish with four straight to take the opener 25-20.
The V-Hawks would take control early in games two and three, securing the sweep with scores of 25-15 and 25-16.
Cannon led the Trolls with seven kills on the night, plus a pair of block assists for a team-high eight points. Sharide Sykes tallied five kills and six digs to go with 21 assists, and Makenzi Bennett led the defense with eight digs.
