KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Trinity kicked off the NCCAA Women's Soccer National Championship in dramatic fashion, falling behind 2-0 at the half before coming back to defeat Warner (Fla.) 3-2 in the first game of pool play on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lions would take a lead in the 37th minute after earning a penalty, then struck again five minutes later to quickly take a 2-0 lead before the end of the first half.
Trinity would begin their rally early in the second half, when Litzy Corona fired a shot from outside the box for her 11th goal of the season off an assist from Samantha Wind. In the 68th minute, Wind would find the equalizer, scoring her second of the season from Gema Garibay to even the score.
Tea Sandoval found the perfect time for her first goal as a member of the Trolls, scoring the game-winner in the 74th minute.
With the win, the Trolls lead Pool B at the NCCAA tournament, and can secure a spot in the national championship match with a win or draw over Redeemer (Ont.) in the pool play finale on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
