KISSIMMEE, Fla. – For the second day in a row, the Trolls rallied from behind, as a wild second half resulted in a 2-2 draw with Redeemer (Ont.), sending Trinity Women's Soccer to the NCCAA national championship final on Friday night.
In an even matchup through the first half, the Trolls surrendered the first goal of the match, falling behind 1-0 after 20 minutes. Trinity responded early after the halftime break, when Litzy Corona scored her second goal of the tournament and team-leading 12th of the season, tying the match at 1-1 in the 50th minute.
The Trolls held on to the tie score for over half an hour, but the Royals would break through again in the 83rd minute to take a 2-1 lead.
Less than 40 seconds later, Trinity would get another opportunity as a penalty was awarded in the 83rd minute. Jade Maldonado stepped up to record her fifth goal of the season, pulling the Trolls even once again to secure the result and their place in the NCCAA final.
Awaiting Trinity in the championship match is CCAC rival Judson; the Trolls and Eagles have met twice already this season, both times on the road. Judson earned a 1-1 draw in their regular season matchup back on Oct. 9, and claimed the NCCAA North Central Region title after a scoreless draw led to a penalty shootout.
The NCCAA Women's Soccer National Championship is slated for Friday, December 6, beginning at 5:00 p.m. CT.
