UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. – Trinity Volleyball had the strongest offensive performance of the early season Tuesday night, collecting 44 kills in a straight-set win at Governors State.
Sarah Neighbors led the attack for the Trolls, scoring nine kills to go with nine digs in the win. Reigning CCAC Setter of the Week Sharide Sykes picked up eight kills along with 33 assists and five digs. Mackenzi Bennett had a strong night on the back row, scoring a match-high 13 digs along with a kill and a service ace.
Trinity would lead the opening set wire-to-wire, jumping out to a 15-3 lead on their way to a 25-15 victory to start the night. Game two was more competitive, with the host Jaguars leading at 6-5 before the Trolls scored eight of the next eleven to take control.
In game three, Governors State would use a three-point rally to close the Trolls' lead to 16-13, but Trinity would pull away with five of the next six points en route to the sweep.
With the win, the Trolls move back to .500 in conference play, and will look to make it two in a row when Saint Xavier comes to DeVos Gymnasium on Tuesday, September 24. First serve with the Cougars is set for 7:00 p.m.
