JOLIET, Ill. – The Trolls would hang around with the host Saints, but a pair of close losses in the first two sets would lead to a straight-set loss for Trinity, as they fell on the road at St. Francis on Tuesday night.
Aolani Cannon led the way for Trinity, recording eight kills with a .375 attack percentage. Sharide Sykes earned another double-double with a team-high 14 assists to go along with 13 digs. Jorieliss Caraballo picked up 13 digs to match Sykes for the team lead.
After leading through the early portions of game one, the Trolls would surrender an 8-2 lead to the home team, falling behind 17-15. Trinity would rally back, winning the race to 20 after a Sykes kill and a Saints attacking error, 20-18. Sarah Neighbors' kill put Trinity ahead 22-21, but St. Francis would run four straight points to take the opener, 25-22.
The Trolls again took an early lead in game two, with a three-point run capped with a Neighbors ace at 12-9, but St. Francis responded with four in a row to move back in front. The lead would change hands four more times throughout the set, before a Saints error tied the game at 20-20. The Saints rallied down the stretch again, scoring five of the next seven to take a two-set lead in the match, 25-22.
The home team would take control in game three, leading wire-to-wire to close out the night with a 25-15 win.
The Trolls will look to bounce back on Thursday night, with their next-to-last road trip of the regular season. Trinity will travel to Indiana Northwest for a matchup beginning at 7:00 p.m.
