PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Trolls earned one of their most dominant wins of the season on Thursday night, holding the visiting Mount Mary Blue Angels to under 20 points in each set of a sweep inside DeVos Gymnasium.
Aalyssa Gunn led the attack, scoring a team-high eight kills with a .333 attack percentage. Alexis Bartz collected eight assists with five digs, while Jorieliss Caraballo led the defense with seven digs.
After the visitors opened the night with a 5-3 lead, Trinity responded with a 12-3 run, highlighted by four kills from Neighbors during the rally. A four-point run later in the set, capped with an ace from Aolani Cannon stretched the lead to 21-12. The Trolls would close out the set with the last three points as Dej'a Williams' kill ended the opener at 25-14.
Mount Mary took another early lead in game two, 4-3 before Trinity scored five straight including a block from Sykes and Cannon to put the Trolls up 8-4. The home team would stay in front the rest of the way, closing on a 6-1 run to take a 25-17 set win on a kill from Zoe Klaus.
Trinity would lead game three start-to-finish, using a 7-1 run to build a 16-7 advantage midway through the set. The Trolls would score 9 of the last 11 to secure the win, 25-12.
With the win, Trinity formally secures their spot in the CCAC Tournament, set to begin on Tuesday, Nov. 11. First the Trolls will host league leaders No. 15 Viterbo next Tuesday night, Oct. 28. First serve with the V-Hawks is set for 5:00 p.m.
