Trolls fall in four to #15 Viterbo

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity would take a set off of No. 15 Viterbo, for the first time in six seasons, but the Trolls were unable to keep pace with the CCAC leaders, falling to the V-Hawks in four on Tuesday night inside DeVos Gymnasium.

Sarah Neighbors led the way for the Trolls, collecting a match-high 14.5 points on 14 kills and a block, while recording a double-double with 11 digs. Alexis Bartz tallied 21 assists, and Jorieliss Caraballo collected 16 digs to lead the defense.

Trinity opened the night with a seven-point run to take a 9-3 lead in the first set. Viterbo would eventually even up the set at 12-12, and take their first lead of the night with a three-point rally at 20-19. A kill from Dej'a Williams would tie the game again at 23-23, but Viterbo would score the next two to take the opener, 25-23.

In game two the visitors would take a 7-3 lead to start, but a 9-1 rally highlighted by two kills and a block apiece from Aolani Cannon and Aalyssa Gunn would give the Trolls the late lead, 20-17. A Neighbors kill gave Trinity set point at 24-20, and Williams would close out the win two plays later, 25-21.

The Trolls would take a narrow lead to open game three, 4-2, but Viterbo would respond with four in a row and remain in front the rest of the way. Trailing 23-14, the Trolls would get a quick three-point run with kills from Neighbors and Williams, but the V-Hawks would take a 2-1 lead in the match following a 25-17 win in game three.

Trailing 15-10 in game four, the Trolls would score seven of the next nine points to tie the set, 17-17. Viterbo would put the match away from there, scoring eight of the final nine points to take the set and the match, 25-18.

The Trolls have the rest of the week to prepare for the final week of the regular season, starting next Tuesday, Nov. 4 with a trip to Judson. First serve with the Eagles is set for 7:00 p.m.
