Barb Schaaf '87 was a standout performer on the women's basketball and softball teams. She averaged 15.3 points for her career in basketball and twice earned NCCAA All-American honors.  On the softball field she also earned NCCAA All-American recognition and ended as Trinity's all-time leader in career batting average (.482) and single season batting average (.516). Schaaf later returned to coach the women's basketball team for four seasons and the softball team for three seasons. After graduation she earned a spot on the U.S Team Handball National Team and competed in the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.


 


Bob Schaaf '94 was a four-year letter winner in both basketball and baseball. He scored 1,293 career points in basketball and ranks third all-time at Trinity in career assists (54) and fifth in career steals (150). He earned All-Conference honors in 1993. He was a three-time NCCAA All-American selection in baseball and earned NAIA All-American recognition in 1993. Schaaf ranks first all-time at Trinity in career batting average (.412), career home runs (29) and career RBI's (107). He was the first Trinity player to be drafted and spent time in the Dodgers organization. He returned to campus to coach the baseball team for four years and guided the squad to three appearances in the NCCAA national tournament.


 


Dave Ribbens spent 23 years with Trinity athletics, including time as head coach of four different sports and as athletics director. As athletics director he guided the program in growth from four to 12 sports, served as the CCAC commissioner and as the NCCAA president. He coached men's soccer for 21 years, posting a career mark of 177-209-12. As women's basketball coach he built a record of 113-83 in seven season and took the team to the NCCAA national tournament four times. Ribbens also spent five years as softball coach and one season as women's soccer coach.


 


George Huisman '74 was the first star for the men's basketball program. He scored 2,187 career points, including a school-record scoring average of 29.5 points in 1971-72. He also holds the Trinity marks for most points in a game (51), and highest career scoring average (22.0). Huisman led Trinity basketball to winning records in its first three seasons as a varsity sport, with an overall mark of 41-30 between 1970 and 1973.


 


Kim (Pothoven) Gritters '94 was a three-sport star for the Trolls, earning a total of 11 letters in volleyball, basketball and softball. She was an All-Conference selection and played in three NCCAA national tournaments with the volleyball team. On the basketball court she was a NCCAA All-American in 1994 while averaging 17.5 points per game. She ranks first all-time at Trinity with 215 career 3-point field goals and fifth all-time with 1,553 career points. In softball, she earned NCCAA All-District honors and posted a career batting average of .335. She ranks first at Trinity with 84 career RBI's.


 


Lois (Hovinga) Cole '67 was instrumental in starting women's athletics at Trinity. She coached the women's basketball team from 1974-1984 and the volleyball team from 1976-84. Her volleyball squads won three NCCAA District titles and played in the NCCAA national tournament three times, including a runner-up finish in 1984. She coached the basketball team to a NCCAA District title in 1979 and twice participated in the NCCAA national tournament. In addition to her coaching duties, Cole spent time as the Chair of the Physical Education Department and as the athletics trainer.
