First game leads to five set victory for Trolls

The Trinity men's volleyball team competed in their first match of the season today as they hosted the Goshen College Maple Leafs. After letting Goshen tie up the match, the Trolls came out victorious, starting the season with a 1-0 record.

The Maple Leafs were able to grab the first set from the Trolls 25-17 before Trinity fought back, winning the next two 25-17 and 25-22. In the fourth set, the Trolls lost their momentum, losing 14-25. But that didn't stop Trinity from coming back in the fifth, winning the final set 15-9.

Junior Djordje Novakovic shined for the Trolls as he registered 15 kills, eight digs and two aces. Sophomore Jake Ostema led the defense in the front row as he recorded a team-high six blocks along with eight kills. Senior Danny Lawrence took control on offense as he finished the night with 39 assists, while sophomore Adam Becker registered a team-high 18 digs from the backrow.

The Trolls will have a week off before they host the NCCAA Men's Volleyball National Invitational. During this tournament, seven other teams will travel to Trinity to fight for the NCCAA Championship. The games will take place all day on Jan. 24 and 25.
