Box Score 2 During the first day of the NCCAA Men's Volleyball National Invitational, the Trinity men's volleyball team opened up against the Warner University Royals and the Ottawa University Spirit. Although the team put up a strong offensive effort, they were unable to win any matches, going 0-2 on the day.
In the first match against Warner, the Trolls kept each set close, but was unable to finish. They lost in three sets, 22-25, 22-25 and 19-25.
Leading Trinity against the Royals was junior Djordje Novakovic, who finished the match with 11 kills and five digs. Senior Danny Lawrence contributed 30 assists while sophomore Adam Becker added 15 digs. Junior Dan Ryan also recorded six blocks.
A few hours later, the Trolls stepped back onto the court to take on the Ottawa University Spirit. They were able to grab one set from Ottawa, but ultimately lost three sets to one with scores of 23-25, 18-25, 25-20 and 16-25.
In this match, sophomore Jake Ostema led the offense, finishing with a .353 hitting percentage (7 kills, 1 error, 17 attempts). Lawrence also contributed 31 assists while both Ryan and freshman Mark Hernandez contributed three blocks.
Tomorrow, Trinity will play at 11 a.m. against Maranatha Baptist before seeing where they are seeded for the final match of the day.
