Box Score 2 Today was the final day of the NCCAA Men's Volleyball National Invitational, and the Trinity men's volleyball team came out 1-1.
During the first match of the day, the Trolls played the Maranatha Baptist Sabercats to close out pool play. They were able to secure the win in three sets, which was their first victory of the tournament.
Leading the Trolls' offense was junior Dan Ryan, who hit .545 (8 kills, 2 errors, 11 attempts) for the day while also recording a block. Senior Danny Lawrence kept control of the offense with 37 assists while sophomore Adam Becker lead the backrow with 12 digs. Senior Jon Poortinga and sophomore Jake Ostema also recorded three blocks each.
In their final game of the day, the Trolls faced the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes. After a hard-fought match between these two teams, the Trolls were unable to come out with the win, losing three sets to two.
Freshman Bart van der Mark shined during this match, recording a career-high 16 kills, 10 digs and four blocks to register his first career double-double. Becker led the backrow defense with a season-high 30 digs, while Lawrence registered 50 assists along with 16 digs to record his first double-double of the season.
Following this weekend, the Trolls have an overall record of 2-3. They will be back in action again on Tuesday, Jan. 28 as they host St. Ambrose. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
