Box Score 2 Bourbonnais, Ill. - Trinity Christian College (0-2, 0-0 CCAC) men's volleyball went on the road to open up the 2022 season at the ONU Quad and fell short. The Trolls dropped both matches, but nearly came back in match two against Goshen College.
Match 1: Trinity Christian College 1, Indiana Tech 3
The Trolls kicked off their season against a team that already played in four matches. Indiana Tech opened the night with a 25-16 win in the first set and then a 25-18 victory in set two. But the Trolls didn't go out quietly. Trinity Christian took set three when Alex Costa ended it with a service ace. Costa led the Trolls with four aces for the match. Indiana Tech came back and won the final set, 25-21.
NOTES & NUMBERS:
- Costa crushed Indiana Tech with 19 kills. He led the Trolls and nearly missed a double-double with eight digs.
- Ryan Schmidt dished out 47 assists.
- Jake Ostema reached double-figures with 10 kills.
- Mike Hay led the defensive front for the Trolls with three blocks.
- Matt Kentner led the Trolls with 11 digs.
Match 2: Trinity Christian College 2, Goshen 3
Down two sets-to-one, Trinity Christian College took Goshen to a fifth set. The Leafs found their stride and took the fifth set by a final of 15-6. Goshen was playing in their third match of the year. The Trolls were led by Alex Costa with 17 kils and 11 digs. He also had six aces.
NOTES & NUMBERS:
- Ryan Schmidt handed out 42 assists and added 11 digs.
- Jake Ostema went for 11 kills and an attack percentage of .500 (11-2-18). He also had three blocks.
- Matt Kentner had another double-digit dig performance. He ended the match with 13 digs to lead the Trolls.
- Arneet Garcha added eight digs.
The Trolls return to the court in the NCCAA Invitational on Friday, Jan. 21st at 2 p.m inside of DeVos Gymnasium. They will take on Geneva College in the first of four matches over Friday and Saturday.
