Box Score PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trisha Noonan led Trinity with seven kills on the night, but the Trolls dropped three tough sets to the visiting Roosevelt Lakers on Tuesday night, 25-18, 25-19, 25-23 inside DeVos Gymnasium.
Setters Emma Dykstra and Grace Steenwyk each tallied nine assists on the night, while Dykstra also finished with a team-high five digs on defense. In the opening set the Lakers (5-16, 4-7 CCAC) led wire-to-wire, jumping out to a 9-3 lead and remaining in front the rest of the way.
In game two, a kill from Lyniah Lee followed by a Roosevelt error allowed the Trolls (3-23, 1-10 CCAC) to close the gap to 10-9 midway through the set. The Lakers bounced back, scoring five in a row, but Taryn Hinken scored a kill to highlight a four-point rally for Trinity, making it a 15-13 edge for the visitors.
The Lakers went on to score six of the following seven points, and would hold the Trolls off down the stretch to take a two-set lead in the match.
Trinity responded to start game three starting with a block from Lee and Hinken on the opening point. The Trolls took an 8-3 lead to start the set, including kills from Lee, Brooke Veldman, and Sarah Neighbors. The Trolls would remain in front until the closing points of the set, as Roosevelt scored a 5-1 run to take a 22-21 lead. Kills from Lee and Noonan evened the score, but Roosevelt would finish the set with the last two points to secure the match.
The Trolls will look to bounce back quickly, as they host Trinity International on Thursday night. First serve with the Trojans is scheduled for 7 p.m. on October 20.
