Box Score 4 PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Playing four matches in the past two days, Trinity picked up their third win of the year as the hosts of the 2022 Troll Classic on October 7-8. The Trolls earned a straight-set sweep over Knox (Ill.) to open the event on Friday night.
Sarah Neighbors and Brooke Veldman each finished with 10 kills in the win, while Grace Steenwyk registered 23 assists. The Trolls (3-20) used a five-point run to claim a 5-1 lead in the opening set, and would remain in front throughout. In game two, Trinity opened with five in a row again, going wire-to-wire thanks to a pair of kills from both Neighbors and Veldman highlighting the rally.
The third set was close through the first half before kills from Veldman and Trisha Noonan helped to break at 15-15 tie. Trinity would close out the win by scoring seven of the final eight points.
On Friday night, the Trolls would take a set over Spring Arbor (Mich.), opening with a 25-18 win, but fell in four sets to the Cougars, 18-25, 25-17, 25-14, 25-21. Hinken led the attack with nine kills, while Steenwyk and Emma Dykstra each finished with 14 assists.
Trinity would drop a pair of matches on Saturday, first to Concordia (Mich.), 25-21, 26-24, 25-19, then later to No. 4 Missouri Baptist, 25-21, 25-19, 25-18. Veldman posted a weekend-high with 12 kills against the Cardinals, while Steenwyk finished with 20 assists.
Against Missouri Baptist, libero Cecilia Zuniga posted 18 digs, most for any Troll over the weekend.
The Trojans now prepare to resume conference play, when they travel to Saint Xavier on Tuesday night, October 11. First serve with the Cougars is set for 7:00 p.m.
