Box Score Palos Heights, Ill. - It was another three set sweep for Trinity Christian College men's volleyball (13-9, 5-4 CCAC). On Thursday night, the Trolls dimantled Lincoln College (4-15, 1-8 CCAC) in three sets, 25-11, 25-15 and 25-20.
Sophomore Alex Costa continues to be unstoppable. He throttled the Lincoln College defense and finished the night with 17 kills. Sophomore Mike Hay added another 10 kills to aid the Trinity attack. Hay has reached 10 kills in back-to-back games.
The Trolls didn't need much to get by Lincoln College in the first two sets. In set one, with the match still tied at four apiece, the Trolls rattled off eight straight points to make it 12-4. Lincoln scored to make it 12-5, but Hay came back with back-to-back kills and the Trolls led 14-5.
After Trinity dominated the first set, it was more of the same in the second set. Lincoln College led 8-6, but a kill from hay, and then back-to-back kills from senior Jake Ostema started a 10-1 Trinity run.
The Trolls struggled to pull away in the third set. Lincoln led 14-11 early, but the Trolls kept chipping away. With Lincoln leading 18-17, a kill from freshman Matt Kentner earned a kill to tie the match at 18. The Trolls made it 21-19 when sophomore Ryan Schmidt added another kill. Trinity ended the night with a kill from Costa to earn the win.
NOTES & NUMBERS:
- Costa has picked up the final kill of the night in each of the last two matches.
- Ostema collected five more blocks. He's had four or more blocks in each of his last four matches.
- Sophomore Nick Mioni led the passing attack. He had 33 assists. It's the most he's had since he went for 34 assists on Jan. 26 against Aurora University.
- Schmidt had a career high six kills.
UP NEXT: The Trolls will prepare for a pair of road matches on Saturday, March. 12th in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Trinity plays Dordt University and Viterbo University.
