Chicago, Ill. - Trinity Christian College men's volleyball (15-10, 6-5 CCAC) went on the road Tuesday evening and fell in four sets to #8 Saint Xavier (21-8, 10-0 CCAC) 16-25, 19-25, 25-20, 14-25. The Trolls are the only team to win a set against Saint Xavier this season. Entering the match, the Cougars were 27-0 in conference sets. 

It was a standout performance for senior Adam Becker. He had 12 digs on the night to anchor the defense, while sophomore Alex Costa posted 12 kills for the Trolls offensively. Costa also went for a career high six blocks. Sophomore Mike Hay set a career high with 10 blocks. 

Trinity Christian College struggled out of the gate. Saint Xavier quickly took a 5-0 lead. The Trolls bounced back though and sophomore Nick Mioni tied the game at six with a kill. The momentum flipped though as Saint Xavier took back control and ended the set with a kill for the 25-16 win in set one.

The Trolls followed a similar script in set two. They trailed 6-2 and came back to take a 7-6 lead when Hay and freshman Matt Kentner teamed up for block. The Cougars responded though and eventually took a 25-19 win. 

In set three, it was a big kill from Costa to take a 15-11 lead. Saint Xavier closed the gabe at 20-19, but Costa again earned a kill to give the Trolls the lead. Trinity ended the third set on a Hay, Mioni block to secure the win. 

Set four the Trolls offense faultered and Saint Xavier found their stride. They went on a 15-6 run to win the match.

NOTES & NUMBERS:

• Costa was the only Troll with double digit kills. Hay was second in kills with five. 
• Sophomore Ryan Schmidt had eight digs and five assists. 
• Mioni led the Trolls in passing with 18 assists. 
• Trinity had an attack percentage of just .079. 

UP NEXT: Trinity Christian College will return to DeVos Gymnasium for a Thursday night matchup with Roosevelt University (0-17, 0-10 CCAC). First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
