Box Score 2 Adrian, Mich. - Trinity Christian College softball (4-8-1) continued their non-conference schedule on Thursday in Adrian, Mich. against Siena Heights (7-4). The Saints took the first game, 5-1, thanks to a sensational performance in the circle from Jordan Green. Trinity responded in extra innings in the second game of the doubleheader, 5-2. Freshman Maddy McIntyre led the offense. She went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a walk.
In game one, the Trolls struck first in the third inning. Senior Erin Curtin stole second base and freshman Hannah Camarena sprinted home on the throw down to second base.
After the Saints scored a run off starting pitcher, sophomore Madi De Graaf in the fourth inning, Siena Heights posted four runs in the sixth frame. With the bases loaded, three straight singles lifted the Saints to a 5-1 advantage. Green was too much to overcome in the circle. She allowed only three hits and Trinity fell 5-1. De Graaf earned the loss despite going all six innings.
In the second game, Trinity took a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning. Freshman Myleigh Halmon single to score one run and make it 1-0. The Trolls added another later in the inning on a Saints error to lead 2-0. junior Jordan Jones was electric in the circle. She tossed five innings and allowed only one run in the fifth.
Halmon was looking to finish the game in the circle but qith two outs in the seventh inning, Siena Heights singled to tie the game at two. Halmon bounced back though and left the winning run at third base. She induced a pop fly and the game went to extra innings.
The Trolls went to work and scored three times in the eighth inning. Senior Hailey Jurasz doubled to score two runs. Later in the inning, sophomore Faith Bruinius grounded out and freshman Brooke Becker scored from third base to give Trinity a 5-2 lead. De Graaf came on for the seventh inning to close the game out. She retired the side for her first save of the year.
NOTES & NUMBERS:
- Erin Curtin had a steal in both games. She is now tied for the team lead with five stolen bases. McIntyre also has five.
- Halmon earned the win in the circle for her second victory of the season.
