Box Score 2 Howell, Mich. - Trinity Christian College softball (4-10-1) finished their four game Michigan road trip on Friday afternoon. The Trolls dropped both games of their doubleheader with Cleary University (11-17). Game number one was all Cougars. They earned a 7-1 victory and outhit the Trolls 12-5. In the second game, Trinity trailed 4-3 in the fourth inning before giving up three runs in the inning and ultimately falling 7-3.
Trinity led 1-0 in fourth inning of the first game after junior Jordan Jones reached first on an error and freshman Hannah Camarena came home to make it 1-0. Cleary had enough and posted a four-run bottom of the fourth. It was highlighted by a triple from Courtney Ture that scored three runs.
Freshman Madi De Graaf didn't allow a run over 1.2 innings but had to leave the game in the second after a line drive hit her in the hand.
Cleary scored two runs in the fifth for some insurance, then one more in the sixth to get the win. Alexis Beeson came out of the Cleary bullpen for the win. She didn't allow a run in 3.1 innings of work.
In the second game, Trinity trailed 4-0 after the first two innings. The Trolls bounced back with an RBI knock from sophomore Jolie Robertson. She made it a 4-1 in the fourth. Later in the inning, Jones doubled to cut the Clearly lead at 4-2.
Freshman Brooke Becker added on with an RBI single and Trinity trailed at 4-3. Cleary took advantage of a Trinity error in the sixth and scored two runs. A sacrifice fly made it 7-3 and the Trolls came up empty in the final three innings.
NOTES & NUMBERS:
- Junior Gia Cozzi came into the circle and didn't allow a run in the final 2.2 frames. She surrendered just one hit.
- Robertson had a multi-hit game for the Trolls. She went 2-for-3 and scored a run.
- Freshman Myleigh Halmon went 2-for-2 in the first game of the doubleheader. She also walked.
- Freshman Isabella Hull went 1-for-3 in the second game and collected the first hit of her collegiate career – a single.
UP NEXT: The Trolls will play their first games of the season at Schaaf Athletic Complex next Friday, March 25th at 2 p.m. against Goshen College (11-7).
