Box Score 2 Palos Heights, Ill. - Trinity Christian College softball (7-11-1, 2-0 CCAC) stole the first game of their doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon, 8-7, and came back in the second game and fell 10-4 to St. Mary-of-the-Woods College.
Freshman Myleigh Halmon hit a critcial solo home run in the sixth inning to extend the Trinity lead to 8-7. The Pomeroys scored three runs in the seventh inning, but Halmon hung on in the circle for her first career save. Trinity won 8-7.
The game got off to an electric start thanks to the speed of freshman Maddy McIntyre. With senior Angela Abrand on first base, McIntyre laid a bunt down. The throw to first base went over the first baseman's head and rolled into the right field corner. McIntyre came all the way around and scored. Trinity tied the score at two.
The Trolls got a big lift from freshman Hannah Camarena in the circle. She made her first collegiate start and earned the win. Camarena went four innings and allowed only two runs. She surrendered both runs in the first inning before pitching three scoreless innings and leaving after four frames.
St. Mary-of-the-Woods College used the long ball to pull within a run at 8-7, but Halmon ended the game and got the win for the Trolls.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Trolls took an early 2-0 lead on a sacrifice fly from freshman Jenna O'Brien. Trinity fell behind 6-2 but Halmon hit her second home run in as many games to make it 6-3. The Pomeroys scored four more runs in the fourth inning and it was too much to overcome.
NOTES & NUMBERS:
- In game two, all eight hits came from four players. Sophomore Jolie Robertson, junior Jordan Jones, Halmon and Abrand each had two hits.
- Halmon had two hits in each games and is now hitting .364 on the season.
UP NEXT: Trinity Christian College will host St. Ambrose (18-3, 2-0 CCAC) on Friday, April 1st for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m at Schaaf Athletic Complex.
