Palos Heights, Ill. - Trinity Christian College men's volleyball (11-9, 3-4 CCAC) hosted #6 ranked Missouri Baptist University on Friday night and fell in straight sets, 25-19, 25-16, 26-24. Trinity Christian College didn't have enough fire power to overcome the nationally ranked Spartans. The Trolls held an attack percentage of just .236. Sophomore Alex Costa had 16 kills though to continue his incredible start. 

Missouri Baptist came out and took a 2-1 lead in the first set after a kill from Kyle Merzweiler. The Spartans never relinquished the lead. Their lead grew to 20-9 before Trinity rattled off multiple runs. The first was a 3-0 spurt to make it 20-12. Than it was a 4-0 run to make it 21-16. Missouri Baptist still hung on for a 25-19 win.

In the second set, Trinity trailed 11-10, but it was a 7-0 run to pull away and take an 18-10 lead for Missouri Baptist. The Trolls called a timeout but it was too late. Trinity fell in set two, 25-16.

The third set was a back-and-forth affair. A 15-11 lead for Trinity didn't last long. The Spartans went on a 5-0 run to take a 16-15 lead. As the two teams went back and forth, the Trolls were on the verge of taking the set, 24-21. Missouri Baptist ended the night on a 5-0 run for the win. 

NOTES & NUMBERS: 

• Costa refuses to slow down. He had 16 more kills on Friday night. The last time Costa had less than 10 kills came on Feb. 9 vs Saint Xavier.
• Senior Jake Ostema only had six kills, but he did it on an efficient .418% (6-1-12). Ostema also had four blocks.
• Senior Adam Becker had five digs to lead the Trolls defensively. 
• Sophomore Ryan Schmidt had 16 assists and sophomore Nick Mioni had 14 assists. 

UP NEXT: The Trolls will prepare for a conference matchup in Iowa against St. Ambrose University. First serve on Tuesday, March 8th will be at 7 p.m.
