Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Kissimmee, FL - Trinity Christian College softball (1-5) dropped their opening games of The Spring Games tournament in central Florida. Trinity led 9-8 heading into the seventh inning against Florida National but surrendered a three-run home run and lost 11-9.

In game two, after the Trolls game with Michigan-Dearborn was cancelled, Trinity played fellow CCAC opponent Calumet College and lost 8-0.

GAME 1 - Florida National 11, Trinity Christian 9

WP: Gabryella Hay (1-0)

LP: Myleigh Halmon (0-2)

With the Trolls leading 9-8 in the seventh inning, Madison Bradshaw homered to deep left field and took an 11-9 lead. Trinity didn't go quietly though. The Trolls put runners on base and had runners on second and third base with one out. A bunt attempt was caugh by the pitcher and the Trolls were doubled off of second base to end the game.

Trinity Christian College had the offense rolling in the first inning, trailing 1-0, the Trolls had a double steal with freshman Myleigh Halmon taking second base, and on the throw down to second, senior Alyssa Martin sprinted home. Freshman Alex Hofman drove in a run on a double and freshman Hannah Camarena singled home another to make it 3-1.

The Florida National bats heated up though and took a 5-3 lead heading to the bottom of the fifth. Martin continued her great start to the year on an RBI double to tie the game at five. A Hofman single scored another run and then it was a base knock from junior Jordan Jones to take an 8-5 lead for the Trolls.

Yet again, Florida National scored three times in the sixth, but the Trolls responded. They took a 9-8 lead on a throwing error before the seventh inning home run put the game away for the Crusaders.

NOTES & NUMBERS:

  • Hoffman went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a runs scored.
  • Camarena also had a 2-for-4 game.
  • Senior Erin Curtin went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs.
  • Martin went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

GAME 2 - Calumet College 8, Trinity Christian College 0

WP: Josselline Monge (3-1)

LP: Abbey Kuehner (0-2)

After the agony of defeat in game one, the Trolls had a quick turnaround to try and take down Calumet College. The first inning was too much to overcome though. The Crimson Wave scored six runs in the first inning and took advantage of a couple of Trolls errors.

Trinity made three errors for the game and had just two hits as the offense was slowed by Calumet's Josselline Monge. Calumet scored one run in the second and then eight-run ruled the Trolls on a strikeout, wild pitch to end the game in the fifth inning.

Martin and Camarena each had one hit for the Trolls. Jones allowed just one run over 2.2 innings out of the bullpen. Sophomore Madi De Graaf allowed one run in 1.1 innings.

UP NEXT: The Trolls will take on Spring Arbor University Monday morning, March 7th, at 9:15 a.m. Trinity will take on Siena Heights at 11:15 a.m. in their second game of the day on Monday.
