Box Score 2 Hammond, Ind. - Trinity Christian College softball (9-15-1, 4-4 CCAC) finally played a home game, but under slightly different circumstances. The Trolls played Roosevelt University (9-10, 2-3 CCAC) at Purdue Northwest University on Saturday. The game was moved to Hammond, Ind. because of unplayable field conditions at Schaaf Athletic Complex.
The change in venue's didn't phase the Trolls. They took both games of the doubleheader, by a final score of 6-3.
Trailing 1-0 in the third inning of game one, freshman Myleigh Halmon drove in a run with an RBI single. It was part of a huge day for Halmon. She came up later in game one and delivered the biggest swing of the bat. Her three-run homer gave the Trolls a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning.
Halmon added one more RBI on a walk with the bases loaded in the sixth inning.
She finished 3-for-3 with five RBIs to lead the offense. In the circle, sophomore Madi De Graf (2-3) was lights out. She tossed all seven innings to earn the win for Trinity. She allowed just three runs and struck out two.
In game two, costly Laker errors helped the Trolls. After Roosevelt took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, the first Roosevelt error in the third inning aided the Trinity comeback. A fly ball to right field was dropped and senior Angela Abrand raced to third base. Freshman Jenna O'Brien singled and the Trolls trailed, 3-1.
The big inning for Trinity came in the fourth frame. It started with a solo bomb from freshman Alex Hofman. Senior Hailey Jurasz singled to drive in two more runs, and an O'Brien groundout scored another. Trinity led, 6-3.
Following three innings of three-run baseball from Halmon in the circle, junior Jordan Jones gave Trinity an inning of scoreless work. Then it was De Graaf to enter and earn the save. She went the last inning to get the Trolls the victory.
NOTES & NUMBERS:
- De Graaf earned a save and a win in the same day. It was just her second save of the season.
- In the second game, Jones, O'Brien and Abrand all had two hits.
