Box Score 2 Bourbonnais, Ill. - Trinity Christian College softball (7-13-1, 2-2 CCAC) went on the road Monday and gave Olivet Nazarene (10-7, 2-0 CCAC) a scare. The Trolls fell in extra innings in game one of their doubleheader, 10-9. In the second game, Trinity Christian College held a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning but eventually fell, 4-2. They outhit the Tigers, 10-8.
Senior Angela Abrand led the offense in both games of the doubleheader. She went 3-for-4 in the first game and 2-for-4 in the second game.
In the first game, Trinity trailed 7-3 after just two innings. The Trolls battled back though and it started with great pitching in the circle from sophomore Madi De Graaf. In the third inning, the Trolls scored two runs on an Olivet error and the Tigers lead was cut to 7-5.
Abrand brought the Trolls within a run in the fourth inning. Her double made it 7-6. Later in the inning, sophomore Jolie Robertson singled to tie the game at seven.
After Olivet took a 9-7 lead in the fourth inning, Trinity tied the score in the final frame. A sacrifice fly from sophomore Abbey Kuehner made it 9-8. Trinity tied the score at nine on a single from senior Hailey Jurasz. Olivet won the game in the eighth inning on a groundout to score a run from third base.
De Graaf was a star out of the bullpen. She went 5.2 innings and allowed only one earned run and three total runs.
The great pitching carried over to the second game. Kuehner went two scoreless to start the game and the Trinity offense went to work. Freshman Jenna O'Brien singled to score a run and make it 1-0 in the second. In the fourth inning, senior Alyssa Martin blasted a home run to make it 2-0.
The Tigers scored once in the fourth inning and three times in the fifth to outlast the Trolls. Trinity did threaten in the seventh inning with two singles from O'Brien and Jurasz. The Tigers induced a pop-up and a groundout to end the game.
NOTES & NUMBERS:
- Alyssa Martin went 1-for-4 in game one and 2-for-3 with a home run in the second game. She's hit four home runs this year.
- Jolie Robertson had a monster day in the first game. She went four-for-five with an RBI and two runs scored.
- Freshman Alex Hofman hit the first home run of her career in game one. A three-run bomb gave the Trolls a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
- Jurasz had one hit in each of the two games.
UP NEXT: The Trolls will go on the road again Wednesday. They will take on Indiana University South Bend (11-15, 2-2 CCAC) in a doubleheader on April 6th at 2:00 PM CST.
Palos Heights, Ill. - On Monday afternoon, sophomore Alex Costa and senior Jake Ostema were named First Team All-CCAC selections.
Costa finishes the year with one of the best resumes in the country. He led the conference, and the country, with 508 kills and 613.5 points. He was second in kills per set at 4.70 and was third in attack percentage at .316%. Costa was second in service aces with 71.
The sophomore from Oak Lawn, Ill. is already at 738 kills for his career in just two seasons.
For Ostema, he ends the year first in the CCAC in blocks with 95. He was 11th in kills at 229 and 11th in total points with 297.5. He ends his stellar career with 343 blocks and 636 kills. He finished the year 15th in the nation in total blocks.
