COSTA MESA, Calif. – Trinity women's soccer wrapped up the California trip on Monday afternoon, with a tough loss to hosts Vanguard (Calif.), 4-0.
The Trolls (1-1) had a handful of scoring opportunities, but were largely working out of the defensive end, as Vanguard managed to out-shoot Trinity 20-5. Selah Hopkins (37'), Jade Maldonado (61'), and Grace Wienke (77') each recorded shots on goal but were stopped by the Lions' keeper.
Vanguard (1-0-1) struck first in the 27th minute, and took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break. With a free kick less than a minute into the second half, the Lions doubled their advantage, and two more goals in the 82nd and 84th would put the match out of reach.
Trinity will now return to prepare for Saturday's home opener against No. 20 Southeastern (Fla.). Kickoff from the Schaaf Athletic Complex is set for 12:00 p.m.
