Box Score PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity came out strong in the opening set, but the Trolls were unable to keep pace with the visiting Olivet Nazarene Tigers on Thursday night, falling in straight sets 25-20, 25-17, 25-20, inside DeVos Gymnasium.
The Trolls (1-13, 0-4 CCAC) were led by Taryn Hinken's nine kills on the night, as the junior posted a team-high .294 attack percentage. Setter Emma Dykstra picked up her first double-double of the season, with 10 assists and 10 digs, while libero Cecilia Zuninga tallied 10 digs on the back line.
Trinity took an early lead in the first set, as kills from Hinken and Sarah Neighbors in the first three points helped to give the Trolls a 7-4 advantage. The Trolls would lead as late as 11-10 before the Tigers (3-9, 3-1 CCAC) went on a 12-3 run to move ahead, 22-15. Trinity responed with five of the next seven points but were unable to complete the comeback in time.
The visitors would take control of the second set from the start, jumping out to an 8-2 lead. Trinity were unable to score their first kill of the set until Hinken's strike at 15-5. The Trolls rallied back with seven straight points to cut the deficit to 15-11 but were unable to pull even down the stretch as the Tigers took a two-set lead in the match.
A back-and-forth start to game three saw Trinity take a 7-6 lead on a Tiger service error, but that would be their last lead of the night. Three straight points, including a block from Amanda Leibrock and Brooke Veldman cut the Olivet lead down to 17-14, but neither side were able to generate a rally down the stretch as the Tigers closed out the night with a 25-20 win.
The Trolls will hit the court again this weekend, as they host Judson in CCAC action on Saturday, September 17. First serve with the Eagles from DeVos Gymnasium is set for 12:00 p.m.
