Trolls drop conference opener at St. Ambrose

Box Score

DAVENPORT, Iowa – In the first conference match of the 2022 season, Trinity struggled to find their rhythm, as the Trolls fell in straight sets on the road at St. Ambrose Tuesday night, 25-14, 25-18, 26-24.

Trisha Noonan led the Trolls (1-10, 0-1 CCAC) with eight kills and nearly picked up a double-double on the night, with nine digs. On the back line, Cecilia Zuniga recorded a team-high 12 digs.

The host Bees (6-2, 2-0 CCAC) took the first two sets wire-to-wire, but the Trolls bounced back in game three. Back-to-back kills from Sarah Neighbors gave Trinity an early 5-4 edge, but St. Ambrose would score six straight to reclaim a 13-8 advantage. Another kill from Neighbors followed by a service ace from the freshman fueled a four-point rally for the Trolls to pull within a point at 13-12.

Another late rally that included a kill and block assist from Neighbors gave Trinity the lead, 19-18. The Trolls would remain in front as late as 23-21, before the Bees shut down the comeback by scoring five of the last six points to clinch the match.

The Trolls will look to bounce back on Thursday night, as they head north to take on Cardinal Stritch. First serve from Milwaukee, Wisc. is set for 7:00 p.m.
