PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – In the first men's soccer postseason match held at the Schaaf Athletic Complex, Trinity struck early and held on for the shutout victory, 3-0 over Saint Xavier in the CCAC Tournament quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Ismael Aguero put the Trolls (9-6-3) in front with a goal in the 4th minute, his fourth of the season. Despite being out-shot 9-4 in the first half, Trinity would hold on to the 1-0 advantage going into the break.
A header from James Hutchins, coming off of a corner kick, would double the Trolls' lead in the 60th minute. Aguero would then put the match out of reach in the 66th minute, with his second goal of the match and fifth of the year.
Giorgos Christodoulou earned his fifth shutout of the season, making four saves in the win.
As the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament, the Trolls now advance to the CCAC Tournament Semifinal, where they will take on regular season champions Olivet Nazarene. Kickoff with the Tigers is set for Wednesday, November 8, at 2pm in Bourbonnais, Ill.
