Box Score 2 AURORA, Ill. – Some key pitching performances along with a clutch walk-off base hit in extra innings gave Trinity Softball a season-opening sweep on Wednesday, as the Trolls defeated Bethel (Ind.) 4-0 in the first game of a doubleheader, and 3-2 in 12 innings in game two.
Myleigh Halmon led the way for the Trolls (2-0) in the opener, pitching a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits while striking out five. Trinity struck first in the bottom of the 2nd, with Jordan Jones' RBI double to left scoring Erianna Claudio. Another run came in the 3rd on Alex Hofman's sac fly, and the Trolls doubled their lead in the 6th when Claudio drove in a pair of runs with a base hit.
Claudio finished 2-for-3 in the first game, with an RBI and run scored. Jones along with Giulia Cianfriglia had the team's two extra-base hits with a pair of doubles.
In the second game of the day the Pilots (0-4) struck first with runs in the 1st and 2nd innings for an early 2-1 advantage. The Trolls' offense would be quiet until the bottom of the 7th, when Hailey Jurasz would lead off with a single and advance to second on a groundout. Charlie Sartoris doubled in the next at-bat, driving in the game-tying run.
Both teams would be scoreless for the next four innings, despite chances with a runner on third for both squads. In the bottom of the 12th, the Trolls capitalized on a leadoff double from Sartoris, allowing Jolie Robertson the chance to walk it off with a two-out, game-winning single to left.
Sartoris finished the game 4-for-6 with an RBI, coming up a home run shy of the cycle. Katie Lorscheider earned the win in the circle, pitching 10.1 innings of relief without a run allowed, striking out 11.
The Trolls will look to keep the momentum rolling into the weekend, when they travel to Crestview Hills, Ky. for a doubleheader with Thomas More (Ky.). First pitch with the Saints on February 25 is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
