Box Score MADISON, Wisc. – Alex Costa recorded a season-high 22 kills on Thursday night, as the Trolls picked up a third win in their last four matches with a four-set victory over Edgewood (Wisc.), 25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21.
Costa finished with a .378 attack percentage in the win, while posting a team-high seven digs on defense. Setter Ryan Schmidt tallied 40 assists with seven digs and three blocks, while Chris Dargan made 11 kills, setting a season high for a four-set match while recording a .400 attack percentage.
The Trolls (9-5) came out strong, recording 14 kills with just one attack error in the opening set for a .619 attack percentage. A three-point run midway through the game that included kills from Dargan and Mike Hay pushed the Trinity lead to 16-11, and another three-point run moments later pushed the advantage further, at 19-13, to give the visitors enough momentum to close out the set.
Game two saw the Eagles (4-10) score a 4-1 run to even the score at 15-15, before the Trolls took control. Blocks from Hay, Dargan, and Schmidt helped fuel a 9-2 run for Trinity, creating set point at 24-17. Three points later a service error would give the Trolls a two-set advantage in the match.
The home team would take the third set, leading wire-to-wire and taking a 25-22 decision. The Trolls returned the favor in game four, taking an early 5-3 lead on back-to-back Eagle errors and remaining in front the rest of the way.
Trinity returns to CCAC play on Saturday afternoon, when they host Cardinal Stritch from DeVos Gymnasium on February 25. First serve with the Wolves is set for 1:00 p.m.
