Box Score PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity Men's Volleyball picked up their tenth win of the season on Saturday afternoon, making quick work of the Cardinal Stritch Wolves in a straight-set sweep, 25-21, 25-21, 25-22 inside DeVos Gymnasium.
Alex Costa led the way with 11 kills for the Trolls (10-5, 3-4 CCAC), while Chris Dargan tallied ten kills with a .474 attack percentage. Ryan Schmidt recorded 34 assists to go with four kills and four digs.
Tied at 17-17 in the opening set, Trinity used a five-point run to take control, highlighted by a pair of kills from Costa and a Mike Hay service ace to go up 22-17. Nick Mioni secured the win with his kill at 25-21.
The Trolls held a narrow lead in game two, but Cardinal Stritch (3-4, 1-4 CCAC) rallied to even the score at 10-10. Trinity scored three of the next four points, with a kill and ace from Schmidt, to move back in front 13-11. Another three point run pushed the lead to 17-13, and the Trolls remained in control the rest of the way.
The Wolves went up early in game three, as the visitors tried to extend the match, but a kill from Hay would tie the game at 10-10, starting a 3-1 run for the Trolls. Cardinal Stritch would respond, tying the set at 19-19, but Trinity closed out the day on a 6-3 run to earn the first straight-set win in CCAC play this season.
Winners of three out of their last four, the Trolls will look to continue to the momentum when they host Bethel (Ind.) for a non-conference battle on Tuesday, February 28. First serve with the Pilots is set for 7:00 p.m.
