Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. – Trinity secured their fifth straight CCAC victory on Thursday night, taking a straight-set win on the road over Roosevelt, 25-16, 25-20, 25-12.
The win secures the Trolls' (15-8, 7-4 CCAC) spot in the upcoming CCAC Tournament, as the squad currently sits fourth in the conference standings with two games remaining.
Alex Costa finished with a match-high 11 kills in the win, while Nick Mioni posted 16 assists with six digs, five kills, three blocks, and a pair of aces. Chris Dargan picked up eight kills with a. 353 attack percentage.
The home team took an early lead at the start of the match, as the Lakers (6-16, 3-8 CCAC) went up 5-2 in the opening set. Trinity worked back to even the score at 6-6 with four of the next five points, using a 9-2 run to eventually take an 11-7 lead. The Trolls would remain in control the rest of the way, scoring four straight to close out the set, 25-16.
Roosevelt's best performance came in game two, using a 7-1 run midway through the set to take an 18-15 advantage. Two aces from Mioni highlighted a nine-point rally for the Trolls, turning the three-point deficit into set point at 24-18. The Lakers held off the end of the set for two points, but Dargan's kill at 25-20 would give the visitors a two-set lead in the match.
The third set was all Trinity, as the Trolls took a 14-3 lead to start the game. Trinity would maintain a double-digit lead throughout most of the game to take the match.
The Trolls can secure the home-court advantage for the first round of the CCAC tournament with one more win in league play, but Trinity will first wrap up the non-conference portion of the schedule on Saturday morning. The Trolls will host Cornerstone (Mich.) from DeVos Gymnasium on March 18, with first serve set for 11:00 a.m.
