Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. – Trinity volleyball closed out the 2023 season on Friday night, as the Trolls fell in the CCAC Tournament semifinals at Saint Xavier. Trinity dropped a straight-set match to the hosts and top-seeded Cougars, 25-13, 25-20, 25-15.
Alex Costa finished with a team-high eight kills for the Trolls (17-11), while Nick Mioni collected four kills and 13 assists on the night. Nick Costa and Jacob Krefft led the defense with four digs apiece.
Trinity fell behind early in the opening set, as the Cougars (21-4) jumped out to a 7-2 lead and would lead the first game wire-to-wire. The Trolls would earn their first lead of the night in game two, on Mike Hay's kill at 2-1, but Saint Xavier would score eight of the next ten to build a 9-4 advantage. The Trolls would score a four-point rally later in the set but were unable to pull even down the stretch.
A kill from Chris Dargan followed by a Cougar attacking error would even the score in game three at 5-5, but the Trolls were unable to grab the lead, and a five-point rally for Saint Xavier would result in a 13-7 lead for the home team. Another 5-1 run would put the set out of reach to wrap up the night.
The Trolls finish the season with 17 wins, just one shy of last year's program-record 18-12 record.
