Box Score PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity secured it's second straight sweep on Tuesday night, as the Trolls cruised to a three-set win over the visiting St. Ambrose Bees at DeVos Gymnasium, 25-15, 25-22, 25-21.
Alex Costa led the way for the Trolls (12-7, 5-4 CCAC), recording 21 kills with a .314 attack percentage, marking the third time this season the junior posted 20 or more kills in a three-set match. Ryan Schmidt picked up 40 assists in the win, most in a three-set match this year. Mike Hay tallied 11 kills in the win, while libero Jacob Krefft finished with a team-high seven digs.
After an early 5-4 advantage for the visitors in the opening set, Trinity would score six in a row to move in front, 10-5. The Trolls would remain in control the rest of the way, siding out the Bees (4-16, 3-6 CCAC) on each of their ten serves throughout the rest of the first set.
The Trolls would jump out to a 4-0 lead to start game two, and would hold the lead the rest of the way. The Bees would briefly even the score at 5-5, but back-to-back kills from Nick Mioni would put Trinity back in front. Costa gave the Trolls set point with a kill at 24-21, and secured the set with another kill two plays later.
Trinity managed a small lead throughout game three as well, taking a 4-1 edge to start and controlling the match the rest of the way.
The Trolls will look for their third straight victory on Thursday night, when they step outside of conference play to host Morningside (Iowa). First serve with the Mustangs is set for 7:00 p.m.
