Trolls split first two days in Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Midway through their eight-game road trip to the USSSA Space Coast Complex, Trinity softball picked up a pair of victories in back-to-back splits on Monday and Tuesday. The Trolls opened with a 10-3 win over Florida National followed by a 8-0 loss to Keiser (Fla.) on Monday, before defeating Michigan-Dearborn 1-0 and dropping Tuesday's finale to Lourdes (Ohio), 6-2.

Myleigh Harmon earned the win in both victories, throwing six innings with three runs allowed in the team's Florida opener on Monday. She followed it up with a complete game shutout on Tuesday, working around just two hits in the win over Michigan-Dearborn.

Against the Conquistadors (9-7), Charlie Sartoris led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored. The Trolls (4-4) opened a 3-0 lead after an inning and a half, and despite allowing a single run in the 3rd and 4th innings, would tally seven runs over the final three frames to open the trip with the win. Giulia Cianfriglia went 3-for-4 as well, with a pair of RBI, and was a home run shy of a cycle.

Scoreless through four innings with Keiser (6-6), the local team would break through in the top of the 5th with three doubles on their way a 3-0 lead. Five more runs in the top of the 6th would end the game early, as Alex Hofman went 2-for-2 with a walk to lead Trinity at the plate.

Harmon worked around a runner in scoring position in the 2nd and 3rd innings, but did not allow a base hit over the final four frames in the Trolls' 1-0 win over the Wolverines (10-7). The lone run finally came in the bottom of the 7th, when Jolie Roberton's leadoff single lead to a walk-off sac fly from Sartoris.

Hofman's RBI single in the bottom of the 3rd against Lordes (3-5) looked to be enough for another low-scoring win, but the Grey Wolves would tie the game in the top of the 7th and force extras. After Lourdes took the lead with a run in the top of the 8th, Maddy McIntyre pulled the Trolls even again with an RBI single. Lourdes rallied again in the 9th however, scoring four runs to secure the win.

The Trolls will look to finish the spring break trip with a winning record, as they take on West Virginia Tech and Fisher (Mass.) on Wednesday, before closing with games against Lawrence Tech (Mich.) and Marian (Ind.) on Thursday.
