Box Score 4 MELBOURNE, Fla. – Trinity softball closed out the eight-game Florida swing on Thursday, finishing their trip having won three of the last four, with victories over West Virginia Tech and Fisher (Mass.) on Wednesday, before coming back to defeat Lawrence Tech (Mich.) and falling in extra innings to Marian (Ind.) on Thursday.
Katie Lorscheider picked up the 2-1 win over WVU Tech (5-2), pitching all seven innings with just one run allowed. The Trolls (7-5) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the 5th with Anna Lisa Fluder's RBI single, then went ahead 2-0 in the 6th thanks to Giulia Cianfriglia's two-out RBI double. Myleigh Halmon finished 2-for-3 with a double and run scored in the win.
Later on Wednesday, the Trolls earned their third shutout win of the year, behind five scoreless innings from Jordan Jones, who allowed just one hit to Fisher (0-6). Trinity exploded with a four-run 1st inning to take an early lead with an RBI double from Maddy McIntyre and a run-scoring triple from Alex Hofman. The Trolls tacked on another run in the bottom of the 2nd before scoring five runs on two hits and an error in the 3rd to end the game early on run rule, 10-0 after five innings.
Faith Bruinius went 3-for-3 with a triple, RBI, and run scored to lead the Trolls at the plate. Angela Abrand finished 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs, and a pair of RBI.
On Thursday, the Trolls started the day behind early to Lawrence Tech (7-4), surrendering a pair of runs in the top of the 1st for an early deficit. Trinity tacked on one in the 2nd, when Charlie Sartoris scored on an error, then tied the game at 3-3 in the 3rd after two runs scored on an LTU error.
The Blue Devils would reclaim the lead in the 5th, but the Trolls would move in front for good in the 6th, scoring three runs on an error, passed ball, and bases-loaded walk, respectively to take a 6-5 victory. Halmon went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored, while Fluder had the lone extra-base hit for the Trolls, finishing 1-for-2 with a walk and run in the win.
In the Florida finale, Lorscheider pitched another gem, going seven shutout innings before surrendering a pair of runs in the top of the 8th to give the Knights (7-1) a 2-0 lead. After behind held without a hit over the seven frames, the Trolls broke through in the bottom of the 8th, as Hailey Jurasz scored a two-out RBI single to score Halmon. The comeback fell just short however, with the game-tying run left on third.
The Trolls wrap up the week with a 5-3 record in Florida, and now prepare for next week's home opener, set on Friday, March 17. Trinity will take on Lawrence Tech in a rematch of Thursday's win, with a doubleheader from Schaff Athletic Complex set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
