Box Score 2 RIVER GROVE, Ill. – Alex Hoffman would collect four base hits and her first home run of the season, but Trinity would drop both ends of a chilly doubleheader on Saturday, falling to Olivet Nazarene 9-8 in game one, and 8-2 in game two.
The Trolls (10-8, 1-3 CCAC) came out strong in the 1st inning, taking advantage of two walks and a hit batter to score four runs, highlighted by a two-run single from Jordan Jones. Olivet Nazarene (14-9, 3-0 CCAC) would get one run back in the top of the 3rd, then break through for five in the 4th to take a 6-4 lead. Three more in the 6th would push the visitors' lead to 9-4, before Hofman's three-run home run in the bottom of the 6th. A leadoff single from Charlie Sartoris in the 7th would lead to an RBI groundout from Jolie Robertson, but the rally would end there as the Tigers took the opener.
In the second game of the day, Olivet Nazarene would score in each of the first three innings, including a four-run 2nd inning to build a 6-1 advantage. Faith Bruinius would score a run on a groundout in the 2nd, and Jones singled in a run in the bottom of the 4th to close the gap to 6-2.
The Trolls were held to just two base hits over the final three innings, as Olivet secured the game with a pair of insurance runs in the 7th to close out the win.
Trinity will look to bounce back on Wednesday afternoon, when they host Indiana South Bend for a doubleheader from Schaaf Athletic Complex. First pitch with the Titans is set for 3:00 p.m.
