Box Score 4 PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity Softball punched their ticket to next week's CCAC Tournament over the weekend, winning four straight over Friday and Saturday with doubleheader sweeps against Cardinal Stritch and Judson.
The Trolls (17-14, 8-9 CCAC) picked up a pair of victories, 5-2 and 7-5, over the Wolves (5-14, 3-14 CCAC) on Friday. Jordan Jones kicked things off with an RBI single in the bottom of the 1st to put Trinity in front early in game one, and Charlie Sartoris doubled the Trolls' lead in the 2nd with a two-out RBI single.
The Wolves would tie the game in the top of the 4th, but two more runs were driven home by Sartoris in the bottom half of the inning, and Myleigh Halmon pushed the lead to 5-2 with an base hit to close the rally.
In the second game of the day, Cardinal Stritch overcame an Erin Curtin RBI single in the 2nd with five runs on four hits in the top of the 3rd for their first lead of the day. Trinity bounced back with a big rally of their own, as the first four batters reached base, resulting in an RBI bunt single from Katie Lorscheider. Hailey Jurasz drove in two runs with her double down the left field line, and Curtin picked up another RBI with her triple to left center. In all the Trolls posted six runs on six hits for the 7-5 advantage.
On Saturday, the Trolls opened the first of two games at Judson with a two-run top of the 2nd to strike first. Halmon would give Trinity the lead when she scored on a throwing error, followed by a run-scoring infield single from Curtin.
The Eagles (7-23, 4-14 CCAC) got on the board with a run in the bottom of the 3rd, before Trinity came back with two in the 4th. A triple from Jones scored Angela Abrand, then Jones would come home on an error for a 4-1 advantage. Judson would score runs in the 4th and 5th, but Abrand would score again on an error in the top of the 5th as Halmon would pitch a scoreless 6th and 7th to secure the complete game victory.
Judson jumped out to a 2-0 lead to start the second game of the day, before the Trolls tied the game in the top of the 3rd with two runs on four hits including an RBI double from Sartoris. Trinity took the lead with a two-out rally in the 4th, scoring two runs on a wild pitch and Curtin's RBI single. A sac fly in the 5th increased the lead to 5-2, and the Trolls would stay in front the rest of the way.
Sartoris finished a combined 9-for-15 (.600) at the plate, with a pair of doubles, four RBI, and six stolen bases. Halmon pitched two complete games, throwing 14 innings with a 2.00 ERA and 13 strikeouts.
The Trolls close out the regular season this week, beginning with a doubleheader with Trinity International on Tuesday. First pitch from the Schaaf Athletic Complex is set for 3:00 p.m.
