Box Score 2 PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity Softball extended their longest winning streak of the season on Tuesday, taking a doubleheader sweep over Trinity International, 5-2 and 9-0 at Schaaf Athletic Complex.
Myleigh Halmon led the way in game one for the Trolls (19-14, 10-9 CCAC), pitching a complete game with 11 strikeouts to earn her tenth win of the season. At the plate the sophomore went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI triple.
Trinity struck early, posting two runs in the 1st inning, with Giulia Cianfriglia's RBI single and Halmon's run-scoring three-bagger. RBIs from Cianfriglia in the 3rd, Hailey Jurasz in the 4th, and Jordan Jones in the 5th pushed the Trolls' lead to 5-0 through five frames. The Trojans (5-31, 1-19 CCAC) rallied late to avoid the shutout, with a two-run double in the 7th inning before Trinity closed out the win.
The Trolls continued the momentum at the plate into game two, with another first-inning rally. Alex Hofman would drive home Charlie Sartoris, and later score on Halmon's double for the 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the 2nd, Jurasz would single to left and later score on a throwing error to push Trinity's advantage to 3-0.
Trinity would break through in the bottom of the 4th, scoring six runs on six hits and an error, highlighted by Hofman's home run to center field, putting the game in run-rule territory. Katie Lorscheider worked around a one-out double in the top of the 5th to end the game early and secure her sixth win of the year, striking out six and allowing four hits over five frames.
Hofman drove in three RBI in the second game of the day going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Maddy McIntyre was 3-for-3 from the leadoff spot, with a double, RBI, and run. Sartoris drove in two runs and went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.
The Trolls wrap up the conference regular season on Wednesday, with the continuation of a suspended game at Calumet, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
