Box Score 2 HAMMOND, Ind. – Trinity Softball cranked out ten runs in both ends of a doubleheader on Friday afternoon, as the Trolls split the twinbill with Indiana South Bend at Dowling Park. Trinity would nearly pull off the comeback victory, falling 11-10 in the opener before taking out the Titans 10-2 in five innings in game two.
The Trolls (11-9, 2-4 CCAC) collected 14 hits over seven innings in the opener, led by Giulia Cianfriglia's 3-for-5 performance with two doubles and a triple. Jolie Robertson reached base four times in game one, finishing 3-for-3 with a walk.
The Titans (8-19, 1-5 CCAC) jumped out early, scoring four runs in the 1st and 2nd innings for a quick 8-0 lead. The visitors would go up by as much as 11-0 after another three were tacked on in the top of the 4th before Trinity bounced back in the bottom half of the inning. The Trolls broke through for five runs on five hits, highlighted by Cianfriglia's two-out, two RBI double.
Gia Cozzi and Jordan Jones would keep the Titans off the scoreboard the rest of the way, allowing the Trolls to close the gap further with another five-run rally in the 6th. Maddy McIntyre would drive in a pair of runs with her double down the left field line, scoring Robertson and Alex Hofman. The Trolls were unable to pull even however, going down in order in the 7th to end the game.
After two runs in the top of the first and another early lead for the visitors, Trinity would post a run in the bottom of the 1st, then take the lead in the 2nd on Charlie Sartoris' two-run single, scoring Isabella Hull and Erianna Claudio.
Trinity added four more in the 3rd, with RBI singles hit by McIntyre and Angela Abrand. The Trolls then ended the game on run rule in the 5th, as Hull's run-scoring double followed by a walk-off single from Sartoris clinched the win.
Sartoris finished game two a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, while Hull went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Katie Lorscheider earned her third win of the season, pitching four shutout innings of relief.
The Trolls will now prepare for a four-game road trip, beginning on Tuesday afternoon at Roosevelt. First pitch from The Ballpark at Rosemont is set for 3:00 p.m.
