Box Score 2 CROWN POINT, Ind. – Trinity Softball opened the CCAC Tournament on Thursday by splitting a pair of games, each by run rule, as the Trolls fell in the first round to Olivet Nazarene 11-3, before bouncing back to eliminate Calumet, 8-0.
Katie Lorscheider pitched the shutout in game two, throwing all five innings and striking out six for her seventh win of the year. Giulia Cianfriglia hit her second home run of the season, going a combined 4-for-5 with five RBI over both games.
Cianfriglia gave the Trolls (19-18) the lead in the 1st inning, with a long shot down the left field line to put Trinity in front 2-0.
In the top of the 4th, a six-run rally would secure the win for the Trolls, highlighted by a two-RBI triple from Charlie Sartoris.
In the first game of the day, the Trolls struck early, scoring two runs on three hits in the top of the 1st including a run-scoring base hit from Cianfriglia. Olivet Nazarene (26-14) bounced back with seven runs in the bottom of the 2nd to claim the lead and would stay in front the rest of the way.
The Trolls will now play their second lower-bracket game on Friday, May 5, against top-seeded St. Francis. First pitch from the Crown Point Sports Complex is set for 12:00 p.m.
