PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity Women's Soccer started the new year in dominant fashion on Saturday afternoon, as the Trolls secured a 3-1 victory at home over the St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) Pomeroys at the Schaaf Athletic Complex.
Senior Litzy Corona led the way, scoring twice in the victory; first in the 33rd minute to give the Trolls (1-0) the lead, and again in the 83rd to put away the match. Emily Soriaga in her Troll debut doubled the home team's advantage early in the second half with a goal in the 57th minute.
The Pomeroys (1-1) would get one back in the 78th minute, cutting the lead to 2-1 before Corona's second goal just five minutes later.
The Trolls were in control thoughout the match, maintaining possession throughout long stretches and out-shooting their opponents by a 34-5 margin.
Sophomore goalkeeper Michelle Urribarri picked up the win in net, making one save on the day.
The Trolls now prepare for their next test a week from now, when they host Lawrence Tech (Mich.) on Saturday, August 26. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
