PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Freshman Renee Vander Tuig would score the late game-winner for the Trolls, as Trinity Women's Soccer picked up their second win in as many games to start the year, 2-1 over Lawrence Tech (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon at the Schaaf Athletic Complex.
The Trolls (2-0) took an early lead on a 7th-minute penalty, with Demi Scibetta converting from the spot for her first goal of the season. Lawrence Tech (0-1-1) answered in the 19th minute to pull even, and both sides would go into the halftime break tied 1-1.
The visiting Blue Devils would hold a 9-2 shot advantage in the first half, but the Trolls turned the momentum around after the break, out-shooting their opponents 9-5 in the second half.
In the 82nd minute, the Trolls broke through on Samantha Wind's pass out of the defense to Kara Amidon, who deflected the ball ahead to Vander Tuig for a breakaway opportunity converted by the freshman for her first collegiate goal. The Trolls would control possession over the final minutes to secure the win.
The Trolls wrap up a three-match homestand next week, when they host Clarke (Iowa) on Thursday, August 31. Kickoff with the Pride is set for 5:00 p.m.
