PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity women's soccer held No. 7 Aquinas (Mich.) off the scoreboard for the first half hour, but the Trolls would be unable to keep pace with the Saints in a 3-0 defeat on Wednesday at the Schaaf Athletic Complex.
The Trolls (3-1-1) had an early scoring chance, when Demi Scibetta's shot was saved in the 12th minute, but Aquinas (4-0-1) managed to out-shoot Trinity by a 10-2 margin in the first half. The visitors would eventually break through in the 32nd minute with a goal, and would take a 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.
Aquinas then doubled their lead early in the second half, with another goal in the 53rd minute. Alyssa Gill's shot on goal in the 69th would be the Trolls' best scoring chance in the second half, and Aquinas would close out the match with a third goal in the 82nd.
Facing 23 shots on the day, goalkeeper Michelle Urribarri finished the day with nine saves, her second-highest total in a match this season.
The Trolls will kick off conference play this weekend, when they open the CCAC slate at St. Francis. Kickoff from Joliet is set for 1:00 p.m.
