JOLIET, Ill. – Raimey Owens would lead the Trolls with seven kills, but Trinity Volleyball would come up short on Tuesday night, falling in straight sets on the road to St. Francis by scores of 25-21, 25-17, 25-17.
Trinity would briefly hold a lead early in the opening set, after an ace from Sharide Sykes capped a four-point run to give the Trolls a 6-5 edge. The host Saints would respond with a 10-2 run, taking control of the set the rest of the way.
Opening on a 5-1 run in game two, highlighted by a pair of kills from Owens, the Trolls came out strong before St. Francis would score six straight later in the set to move in front, 14-9. Another four-point run would push the lead to 19-11 as the Saints took a two-set lead in the match.
The home side would lead the third set wire-to-wire, opening with an 11-3 advantage and leading the rest of the way.
Owens finished the night with a team-high nine points, with two blocks and an ace to go along with her seven kills. Sykes tallied 22 assists with ten digs and four blocks, while Makenzie Bennett picked up 11 digs on the back line.
The Trolls will look to bounce back next Tuesday night, when they wrap up the two-match road swing with a visit to Olivet Nazarene. Tipoff with the Tigers is set for 7:00 p.m.
