PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Destiny Goodwin led the Trolls with 18 points as Trinity Women's Basketball made their home debut against Great Lakes Christian (Mich.) on Wednesday night, but some clutch three-point shooting in the second half would lead to a 62-56 win for the visitors inside DeVos Gymnasium.
A close game early, the Trolls would take a one-point lead by the end of the first quarter by closing on a 4-0 run with a pair of free throws and a fast-break layup from Goodwin in the closing seconds. The Crusaders rallied, opening the second quarter with a 7-0 run to take a 19-13 lead with 7:15 left in the first half.
Bibi Mercado's three-pointer at the 4:19 mark reclaimed the lead for Trinity, but the Trolls would go cold with just one field goal throughout the rest of the period, as GLCU took a 26-23 lead at the break.
The third quarter would see six lead changes, before a layup from Lorena Arnett tied the game at 42-42 going into the fourth quarter. Trinity were unable to reclaim the lead in the fourth, as the Crusaders took advantage of a 5-for-8 shooting performance from three-point range in the final period to hold on for the win.
Goodwin finished with 18 points on 7-for-15 shooting, along with five rebounds. Mercado posted her third double-figure game of the season, with 10 points. Desire Berrien nearly had her second double-double of the year, with nine points and ten boards. Anastasia Anane recorded 14 rebounds and seven points.
The Trolls will look to bounce back as they return to DeVos on Saturday, November 16, when they host Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) at 1:30 p.m.
