KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Despite a hard-fought comeback in the second half, Trinity would come up just short in the NCCAA Men's Soccer National Championship semifinal, falling to Judson 5-3 in penalties, after a 2-2 draw on Friday afternoon.
The Trolls would fall behind after a pair of quick strikes within a four-minute span, as Judson took a 2-0 lead after goals in the 32nd and 36th minutes. Trinity would rally in the second half, beginning with J.P. Quaresma's first goal of the season in the 64th minute, with Ivan Perez and David Hernandez assisting on the play.
Trinity would face another setback in the 78th minute, going a man down after a red card. Outnumbered, the Trolls were still able to find a late equalizer in the 86th minute, off the foot of Rafael Torres, for his fourth of the year.
After two scoreless extra sessions, the match was decided in the shootout, where Judson converted all five attempts to advance.
Trinity closes the 2024 season with a 17-7-1 record, setting a program high with 17 victories on the year. The team's semifinal result is the highest ever for the Trolls at the NCCAA national championship.
