TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Trinity Softball battled through a pair of non-conference matchups on Tuesday, coming up just short in a doubleheader with St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.).
Game 1
SMWC 5, Trinity 2
WP: Jacobs (2-3) • LP: Halmon (3-5)
• After going hitless in the first two innings, the Pomeroys broke through in the bottom of the 3rd with an RBI triple and another run-scoring base hit for the 2-0 advantage. The home team then added three more in the bottom of the 4th to go up 5-0.
• The Trolls rallied in the top of the 7th, as Maddy McIntyre and Myleigh Halmon hit back-to-back singles to lead off the frame. Kamryn Koontz's single would drive in a pair of runs, but the rally would fall short as the Pomeroys took the opener 5-2.
Game 2
SMWC 6, Trinity 4
WP: Fitzwater (2-1) • LP: Lowden (0-5)
• The Trolls struck early, as Giulia Cianfriglia was hit by a pitch and later scored on Jolie Robertson's RBI single in the top of the 1st.
• St. Mary would even the score in the 2nd inning, but a leadoff single from Charlie Sartoris, followed by a stolen base would set the table for Peyton Lowden to drive in a run on an RBI groundout to give the Trolls at 2-1 edge.
• Again the Pomeroys would tie the game before an error in the top of the 4th allowed Faith Bruinius to score, after reaching base on a hit by pitch. Later in the 6th inning, Sartoris would double the Trolls' lead with an RBI double, driving in Cianfriglia for the 4-2 lead.
• St. Mary would strike in the bottom of the 6th however, taking their first lead of the game with four runs on four hits. Trinity would go down in order in the top of the 7th as the Pomeroys took game two, 6-4.
• Sartoris would lead the Trolls at the plate throughout the day, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, RBI, and run scored in game two.

• The Trolls return to the Schaaf Athletic Complex for the first time in over a month, as they host Rochester (Mich.) for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, March 16. First pitch with the Warriors is set for 1:00 p.m.
