ELGIN, Ill. – Trinity Men's Volleyball would see their season come to a close on Tuesday night, as the Trolls came up short in the first round of the CCAC Tournament, in a three-set loss to Judson.
Team Leaders
• Alex Costa tallied 15 kills across three sets to lead the Trinity attack, along with eight digs.
• Ryan Schmidt collected 19 assists , while Caden Figus tallied 14 assists with six digs.
• Mike Hay picked up ten points, with nine kills and a .500 attack percentage to go with a pair of block assists.
Game 1
Judson 25, Trinity 21
• Four straight errors from Judson would give the Trolls an early 7-4 lead, with Nick Mioni picking up a solo block on the last of the four-point run.
• The Eagles would come back with four in a row themselves, to take a 10-9 lead before more errors gave the Trolls a 12-10 advantage.
• Four straight kills put the home team back in front at 16-14, before kills from Hay and Costa would tie the game at 20-20. Judson would take the set by scoring five of the next six points to win, 25-21.
Game 2
Judson 25, Trinity 20
• An ace from Diego Quiroz followed by four kills form Costa helped to give Trinity an early 7-4 lead.
• Judson would score a six-point rally to move in front midway through the set, 14-9. Another Quiroz ace and kills by Costa and Dargan would fuel a 5-1 run for the Trolls, but Judson would hold the lead throughout.
• Leading 22-19, the Eagles would close out the set with three of the final four points to go up two sets on the night.
Game 3
Judson 25, Trinity 23
• Both sides would trade the lead six times over the first 20 points of the set, as Schmidt's ace put the Trolls in front at 9-8, but Judson came back with three in a row to lead 11-9.
• Trinity would tie the set at 14-14 with a Figus ace and two Judson errors. The Eagles would briefly retake the lead with three of the next four at 17-15, but a kill from Figus followed by a block from Figus and Hay tied the game again at 17-17.
• A 6-2 run for Judson would put the Trolls up against the ropes, as the Eagles took a 23-19 lead. Trinity would score four of the next five, fueled by kills from Hay, Costa, and Figus.
• Judson would close out the night on their third match point attempt, winning the set 25-23.
Season Recap
• The Trolls close out the 2024 season with an overall record of 9-11, and 4-6 in CCAC play. The team reached the CCAC Tournament for the fourth season in a row.
• Alex Costa finishes his Trinity career as the all-time leader in kills (1,493), and service aces (230).
• Ryan Schmidt closes his four-year career at Trinity as the program's all-time leader in assists (2,312).
